I know it sounds weird, but my laptop sent me a message last Saturday night. It told me to “STOP DOING” by cracking up. For real, the screen cracked. Have you ever received a message that told you to ‘pause’ for a moment? My life revolves around my computer. I write blogs, I create workshops and I develop programs. HOW COULD I WORK WITH A BROKEN LAPTOP? That’s the thing – I couldn’t! So after a little cry on my floor I Googled it, posted on Facebook and messaged a friend for help. It wasn’t until today that I truly embraced the idea that I’m being sent a message. I need “to be” for a moment. It’s given me insight about changing gears and I thought I would share it with you since the last few emails have been about “doing”. I’ve given you tools to make your goals reality. Those tools are still relevant and important. But we’ve done enough “doing” for this month. We need “to be” for a moment. What “being” looks like… How being and doing are different
What do I really mean when I say “being” as opposed to “doing”? Well, I learned a style of coaching that honours both. Co-Active = Being-Doing. I obviously fall on one side more than the other. How about you? Here is an excerpt from the Coaches Training Institute website to explain it a little more… “The “Co” in Co-Active suggests relationship, connection, intimacy and collaboration. Thus, the “Co” in us is curious, listens deeply, hears nuance, holds space for others, intuits and nurtures. The “Active” in Co-Active stands for power, direction, action and manifestation. So, the “Active” in us is courageous, has clarity and conviction, takes charge and achieves goals.” http://www.thecoaches.com/why-cti/what-is-co-active I really hope you don’t get a costly message from the universe, like I did, about where it thinks you need to focus. It pays to take stock of the “being” and “doing” in your life and make a choice to balance them out the best you can. This will help you achieve your goals while enjoying the process. xo Diane P.S. Are you more in the being or the doing? I love learning from you and when we learn from each other. Share below how you're bringing one or the other into your life.

Life is better with a tangible and manageable plan to reach our goals. Too often we let dreams hang in mid air. They never materialize because we are caught in a cycle of reaction. But when we make goals and make a tangible plan to achieve them, that boosts us into proactive mode and, wow, does that look and feel great! Here’s how to break a goal down into a tangible and manageable plan to get you closer to where you want to be: 1. Pick one of your goals. Not something you already are working on or that you know will happen.) Choose something bigger. 2. Determine the first step, the second step and so on until there are no more steps 3. Figure out about how much time each step will take. (This is where you’ll have to be flexible down the road or need to buckle down.) 4. Write down when you’d like to achieve that goal. 5. Plan backwards and figure out the dates for each step. 6. Plug in each step into your calendar. 7. Block out the time to do each task and don’t compromise! 8. Celebrate each success! I LOVE BIG dreams! Why is this a problem? Because sometimes I hear such great ideas coming from very cool people, and I am so enthusiastic about breaking the confines of society, so pumped for people to push their personal limits that I want to run around yelling: “What you dream of is possible!!” Yes, you can land that job! Yes, you can make more money! Yes, you can have a better relationship! Yes, you can be more patient, giving, kind, _________ (you fill in the blank) Yes, this year will be better than the last! (Counting Crows in the house!) But you can see why people might get a little bit leery of me, right? So I can’t go around yelling that…BUT I SO BADLY WANT TO! Especially at this time of year. See, January starts out so fresh and so full of hope for people. I hear the most delicious ideas, and goals, and dreams coming from all directions. And then…something…sort of…happens… Life? Fading commitment? Double thinking? Forgetting? Hope looses its fizz. Suddenly the BIG dreams I’ve heard of…die. The wish that was whispered under our breath as we lay in bed; eloquently stated in a talk to a friend; or cleverly scripted in a blog or Facebook post… “This year will be different…” gets erased before it even saw some real plans. And when this starts to happen, I wish I had a soapbox. Because if I did, I would get up and start yelling: “Let’s do more with our dreams!!” Let’s make tangible goals, so our dreams don’t float away! xo Diane Would you believe me if I told you, you have a hidden power? Would you know where to look for it?
Well, it might be a surprise, but your source of power; those little golden nuggets of wisdom integral to your success can be found in your entire last year. You weren’t expecting that – were you!? Most people don’t expect that looking backwards can actually help them go forward and achieve what they really want in the near future. So often we just jump into the new year and set up new big goals, without taking time to review what worked well, or not, in the last year. Then we wonder why we have similar results. Your power is your ability to reflect, learn, and make changes because you are the only one in charge of your experience and setting your own agenda. As a coach, I see women and men struggle to be “ a better________” (you fill in the blank). It’s usually a wish to be a better parent, business owner, wife/husband, and be more of ‘themselves’. It also goes along with wanting to feel better, to feel true satisfaction doing all of those things. But before you can make lasting positive changes that will help you be more in command of your day, and your agenda, so that you can achieve what you really want, you need the right foundation to start from. Reviewing means creating a solid foundation to go forward with confidence, set achievable goals, and then create the master plan. How Do You Get Serious About Finding Your Power? By using the 3-Step Review Your Year Process to build that foundation:
